Earlier this month, Fawn Sharp and Francesca Hillery participated in Carbon to Sea’s fourth Annual Convening in Halifax, Canada, joining researchers, policymakers, industry leaders, and civil society representatives from across the ocean carbon dioxide removal field.

The convening focused on ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE) and related marine carbon dioxide removal approaches, bringing participants together for site visits, presentations, panel discussions, and workshops exploring scientific research, governance frameworks, community engagement, measurement and monitoring challenges, and pathways for responsible development.

As conversations around ocean-based carbon removal continue to evolve, Indigenous leadership and governance perspectives remain essential to shaping how these approaches are researched, governed, and implemented.
