New from GOH: Report and Resources on Tribal Sovereignty and Carbon Removal
We’re pleased to share a new report and set of resources from the Supporting Tribal Sovereignty in Carbon Removal initiative. Partnerships for Tribal Carbon Solutions, Global Ocean Health’s main program, is one of the collaborators in this initiative, alongside the Indigenous Greenhouse Gas Removal Commission, the Carbon Business Council, and the Institute for Responsible Carbon Removal at American University.
The new materials are designed to support Tribal Nations as they assess whether and how carbon dioxide removal may serve their environmental, cultural, and economic priorities. The main report explores what carbon removal at scale could mean for Tribal lands and resources, examines ownership models, and includes evaluation questions and discussion prompts to support Tribes’ internal decision-making.
The release includes:
Main Report: Supporting Tribal Sovereignty in Carbon Dioxide Removal: A Report and Resource Guide
Supporting resource: Guardrails and Considerations for CDR Project Developers Engaging With Tribes
Supporting resource: Marine Carbon Dioxide Removal and Tribal Interests and Rights: A Reference Guide
